Unit 29 Task 1
For Task 1 we were asked to create a specification of audio equipment for a particular band in a particular venue; in this case, The Rolling Stones are performing in the Roundhouse near Camden.

All equipment listed is top-of-the-range. I have generally sought out durable equipment, as the touring nature of the act necessitates portability and sturdiness in the face of a higher risk of potential damage to equipment. All the pics obviously will have stands provided as well.
The supply of each item is the amount needed for the act, plus one extra as backup. For example, the Rolling Stones have three vocalists and so there are four vocal microphones included.
For vocals, the Shure SM58 is often the go-to choice but I opted for the Sennheiser e935 due to reasons listed above as well as it being a more modern model.
The Marshall JCM 25/50 2555X Silver Jubilee Reissue amp is known for its accurate tones.
The Shure Beta52A has a very sturdy design which is ideal for the very high amplitude that will likely be reached by bass during the performance. Meanwhile the amp I chose for the bass, the Blackstar FLY 3 Stereo Pack, is easily powered by batteries and therefore suitably portable. It is also fairly affordable. The direct injection box used is the A Designs REDDI Tube, which has a warm tone that can improve the sound of instruments used in conjunction with it.
For the kick drum I chose the AKG D-12 for its bass chamber that would be useful for picking up the specific tones of the kick. The snare is miked with a Shure SM57; the pneumatic shock-down system helps with handling noise. Cymbals are miked with the durable Behringer C-4, and toms with the tough Sennheiser M421.
Other percussive instruments are recorded with the same mic as the snare for similar reasons. It is also worth noting that the SM57 like many other mics here is durable and capable of tolerating a high sound pressure level without distortion, again an ideal trait for this setting.
Mick Jagger plays harmonica on several songs so this had to be take into account too. I opted for the Shure Green Bullet, a dynamic mic made specifically for harmonica comes with a volume control knob to allow Jagger extra expressive control as he goes along.
The venue will be decked out with ten Alto TS210 TrueSonic 210 Active PA Speakers, arranged circularly around its architecture to fill the space with sound.
The musicians and engineers will all have Sony MDR-1000X headphones. These are very high quality and bluetooth, which eliminates risk of tripping over wires.
